BJJ Video Series: Spider Guard

Spider Guard in Jiu-Jitsu is an open guard position where you control both of your opponent's sleeves with your grips while placing your feet on their biceps or hips. You use constant extension and pressure through your legs to control distance, break their posture, and create sweeping angles. It is used to set up effective sweeps, transition to triangles and omoplatas, and completely frustrate opponents who can't get close enough to pass. Playing spider guard is like being a actual spider with your opponent caught in the web - the harder they struggle, the more tangled up they get! This is the position that makes no-gi grapplers grateful they don't have to deal with sleeves, so we'll cover all the essential grips, sweeps, and submissions.
